Intensive ETAP

System Modeling and Load Flow Analysis

  • ETAP Interface & One-Line Diagram (OLD)
    • Navigating the Graphical User Interface (GUI) and Project Toolbar.
    • Constructing a robust One-Line Diagram: incorporating Busbars, Transformers, Generators, and Loads.
    • Managing Element Libraries and Property Editors.
  • Load Flow Analysis
    • Configuring Study Cases and solution parameters.
    • Gaining an understanding of the Newton-Raphson, Fast Decoupled, and Adaptive Newton-Raphson methods.
    • Practical: Executing Load Flow simulations, interpreting outcomes (voltage drops, power factors), and utilizing the "Alert View" to pinpoint overloaded components.

Short Circuit & Motor Starting Studies

  • Short Circuit Analysis
    • Overview of IEEE and IEC standards for fault calculations.
    • Analyzing 3-phase, Line-to-Ground, Line-to-Line, and Double Line-to-Ground faults.
    • Establishing the Duty and Breaking capacity of Circuit Breakers.
  • Motor Starting Analysis
    • Modeling Static versus Dynamic motor starting scenarios.
    • Evaluating the impact of "Voltage Dip" on the broader system during motor acceleration.
    • Practical: Comparing "Direct-on-Line" (DOL) starting against Star-Delta or VFD starting methods in a simulation environment.

Protection Coordination & Network Simulation

  • Protective Device Coordination (Star View)
    • Introduction to the ETAP Star (Protection & Coordination) module.
    • Integrating Overcurrent (50/51) and Ground Fault (50N/51N) relays.
    • Plotting Time-Current Characteristic (TCC) curves.
  • Selectivity and Discrimination
    • Tuning relay settings to ensure isolation is limited to the faulted section only.
    • Verifying transformer damage curves and cable thermal limits.
  • Hands-on Workshop: Distribution Network Simulation
    • Capstone Project: Building a standard distribution network from the ground up.
    • Conducting a comprehensive study encompassing Load Flow, Short Circuit, and Coordination.
    • Generating final reports and visualizing results.
